Many virus and/or email programs today either block or remove attachments--I
wonder if this could be happening. For instance, if she arrows through the
attachments list she should be able to see/hear how many kbs the file is and
this will determine if indeed there is a file for her to open.

Yi Yardbird:

1. She's trying to open an e-mail message that was forwarded to her as
an attachment.

2. when she presses enter, nothing happens, and the dialog asking for
confirmation doesn't come up.

Hi,
As far as I can understand from my own long experience with Jaws and
Outlook Express and attachments, your friend shouldn't have to be
thinking about something like the Jaws cursor anyway. If things are
working as they should, pressing Enter will open a file attachment. It's
not that kind of issue.

So, I think the thing to look at would be to ask what kinds of file
attachments is she unable to open? All file attachments, regardless of
file type and extension? Or just a particular file attachment? I think
that's the place to start.

also, is it that when she presses enter on the file attachment, nothing
at all happens, right then? Or does the usual dialogue come up, asking
for confirmation to either open or save the file, and is it at that
point that no matter which control she chooses to press enter on,
nothing happens?
These would be two different scenarios. Please ask her to be more
specific.
She doesn't have to be very computer savvy to express that distinction,
if you explain the question clearly.

Subject: Problem Opening Outlllk Express Attachements for JFW user

Hello All:

I am trying to help someone who is having a problem opening attachments
she receives in Outlook Express. She is a JFW user. She can open up
the message with the attachment, press insert-A to get to the
attachments list, but when she presses enter on the attachment she wants
to open nothing happens. Any thoughts on how we can fix this for her?
She is not real computer literate so I don't want to have to explain to
her how she can route the JAWS cursur to the attachment and left click
the mouse to open it.

Thanks,
