Chris,
I will have to try that. I want to be sure that we aren't exchanging wrong
information here, so to be clear, I should hit control enter after I have
typed John for instance? In the event I have given anyone wrong
information, I do apologize.
Take care,
John

JohnWhen I use Outlook 2002 at home, I don't get a drop down, I just keep
typing until it get to the point in an Email address where there are enough
letters to uniquely identify the intended recipient, then the remainder of
the address is auto completed. If you have the 'Automatically Suggest
Names' check box checked in the Tools, View, advanced Email settings, then
you could for example, type 'john' in the 'To' box and when you press
control enter to send, a list box opens with all the address book entries
containing 'john' and you just press enter on the one you want to send to.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,
JFW doesn't want to read the names of potential auto complete email
addresses in the drop down as I type the first few letters. As I told
Rynette, it seems to be totally at random. Sometimes it will read the
person's name but almost never reads an email address. I don't know what the
deal is.
Take care,
John

I have got Outlook 2000 at work and Outlook 2002 at home. At work I can't't
auto complete email addresses but I can on my home copy. What are you
having a problem with?

I am using Outlook 2002 so that is not helpful. But I appreciate you trying.

Auto complete wasn't available in Outlook until the 2002 version. The
suggest names check box in 2000 is not the same as auto complete, indeed
both the Suggest names and auto complete check boxes are in the 2002
version. What the Suggest Names box does is switch on a feature that gives
you a list of what the Email addresses might be in the event of you typing
one incorrectly.

Renette,

I found what you need in Outlook 2003, and maybe it's set up the same in
your version. Open the Tools menu, go to the Preferences tab, click on the
item named Email options, tab down a few items, and click on Advanced email
options.

Now find the item worded something like "Suggest names when filling in the
To, CC and BCC fields. I believe what they mean is the same as
auto-complete. I'm pretty sure. Why Microsoft wouldn't bother to name
identical functions the same thing from one program to the other, I'll never

understand. Give it a try.

Renette,
Just to make sure we're clear on this, I didn't mean I didn't think you knew
about auto complete. I meant that from the way you described it, it wasn't
clear to me if you knew if can be turned on and off, if you prefer to change
the setting. And those tabs are under the options menu, not the tools menu
itself.

Sorry you're having such trouble. Wish I could help. Thanks for explaining
everything.

Yardbird

Yes, I am aware of this handy feature in Outlook Express.

I have switched to Microsoft Outlook 2000 a month ago. None of the tabs
under the "tools" menu seems to do the auto complete - in any case not in
Microsoft Outlook 2000( which is on a second hand Laptop which I am using).

Thanks.

Renette

Hi Renette,

Well, I hope you know that you can turn this handy feature on and off in
Outlook Express, if you want to, yes? It wasn't clear from what you say
below if you're aware of that. As for Outlook, doesn't it have a similar
Options group of tabs under the Tools menu, and doesn't one of those tabs
include this item?

Thanks.

Hi Yardbird

Unfortunately nothing new for you to learn, but let me try to bring you into
the "picture":

The initial problem was/is definitely with Microsoft Outlook 2000, not with
Outlook Express.

In Outlook Express, when starting to type the name of a contact in the "to"
field, the name and e-mail address are automatically completed and read
out by Jaws. Very nice and convenient!

In Microsoft Outlook (2000) we could not manage to get something similar to
happen.

Renette

P.S.

I don't understand why the auto-complete question was problematic, or what
these keystrokes were being mentioned for.  To set OE (I don't use Outlook;
maybe the menus are different) to autocomplete an address when creating a
new outgoing email, you go to Tools/Options, control tab to the Send tab,
tab down a few items, and check the box for this to be done. Why were these
other keystrokes being discussed at all? I ask out of genuine perplexity,
hoping to learn something I may not know about Jaws and my email program.
thanks.

It's quite simple really, the initial thread was to do with getting Outlook
to auto complete Email addresses and I suggested that shift f1 be used to
check the Outlook screen tips for some controls within the interface. The
lady who made the initial post could not get this to work on her machine, so
someone suggested I really meant Insert f1 and I pointed that personn to the
1st item in the list under Insert w for Outlook.

I believe the issue is now resolved

I confess that I haven't followed this thread from the beginning, and maybe
that's why I don't understand something about this first post in the thread
that I've opened, out of curiosity. what is it that someone's looking for?
I'm not sure what you're talking about. Insert W, so far as I knowtell,
brings up the same thing no matter which application you're in. It's a list
of universal Windows keystrokes. The first one mentioned, if I understand
your message below, is the press of the Alt key, which this list tells you
is the key that will take you to the menu line of a Windows application.
This isn't something most of us need to be told, nor anything at all unique
to Outlook or Outlook Express. Am I misunderstanding what's being
discussed? If there's something new to learn, I'd like to learn it, but
this comment isn't clear to me.

Thanks.

Hi Ryan,
I have made sure that both boxes are checked but, I still get
nothing. I do not understand it at all!
When I do shift F1 nothing happens.
Should I go back to bed and wake up again?
