I suspect something more is going on, such as that video card suggestion made by FS, but when I experience problems of this kind, albeit on a smaller scale, I immediately do a disk clean-up and then shut down and restart JAWS. If you haven't done a disk defrag in a while, it can also help. If you have a registry cleaner installed, run it as well. Other users may recommend running the Windows program for checking and fixing disks, which was described recently on one of the lists. If any of this is unfamiliar, write back to the list and you'll get lots more help. Be sure to mention which operating system you have (I infer it's Vista) and which version of JAWS. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jake Joehl Hi all. I think I've briefly mentioned this on here before. I have been experiencing a problem where JAWS will read various things at random. For instance when I start up my computer or log back into my account, it will just randomly announce parts of my taskbar, my recycle bin, Windows Media Player, etc. etc. etc. I informed Freedom Scientific about this, and they told me I needed a different video card. However, I'm not that comfortable transferring stuff like that since I'm not too terribly technical, and I don't want to mess things up. I have had people in here try to help me, but none of them is technical enough either. According to them nothing is on the screen other than the normal stuff that should be there such as icons. This problem went away for a short while, but it has gotten so bad that I can't launch programs at times. When I try to launch Internet Explorer or Windows Mail often times I'm taken to a blank screen. When I hit my arrow keys in these instances, JAWS just reports that "no window is active." Does anyone know of anything I can try? TIA. Jake Please visit me at http://jajoehl_74.tabulas.com
