Can you just turn the Task Pane off?  Or is it necessary for the Office
applications to work?

The task pane is a thing that, so far as I'm aware from experience,
doesn't 
exist in Word 2000.  what do you mean by saying what you say below?

There are both pretty accessable with JAWS but I think the task pane
