I also encounter this problem occasionally. To avoid it from happening in
the first place, I now close all running applications except JAWS before
shutting down my computer. This way, there are no other applications that
can intefere with the shut down procedure. Gerry

Thanks to all, got it done. Another question, sometimes I have trouble
shutting down my computer. I usually do it by hitting the windows me and the
alt f4 ten tabbing to shut down computer. Most of the time it works but
sometimes I get hung up on something saying end now button. When that
happens I cannot shut it down by hitting the button.
I have jfw latest and win xp home.
