Text 2 Pro is a fine software package and works very well with Jaws. For the
price of $89.95 you really can not beat the price. I think it is relatively
accurate.

If I were starting from scratch with OCR software and having to pay for it myself I would take a very serious look at OmniPro, Abby Fine Reader and Text Cloner Pro. These 3 software packages are, reportedly, accessible with JAWS and Window Eyes. They also do a fine job. I notice that Abby is mentioned in my Open Book literature. Cy, the Ancient Okie...

I think there are any number of reasons a blind person would want to use OCR
software if they could afford it.
If I were considering purchasing such software though, I would visit the
respective web sites of Kurzweil and Freedom Scientific and read what they
had to say about their products. I'm sure their complete information would
help you make the best informed decision based on your personal needs.

Subject: OCR software and Jaws
One can use the cheap OCR software to scan small stuff, but I really like something like openbook or Kurzweil. There are so many other access things that openbook or Kurzweil gives one access too.
for example one can pull in documents into openbook and then save them out into various formats. One of the tricks I've been doing lately is pulling in pdfs into openbook and then saving them out as mp3 files and then burning these mp3 files on to cds so that I can listen to them with my Victor portible reading machine. Its a lot easier when travelling to work on the bus using the victor then a laptop. It seems to me I've heard rumours that saving to daisy format is coming as an option for the future as well.
Just wanted to add my experience with OCR and openbook etc and one of the tricks I've learned to get access to material when using Jaws isn't the most convenient.
