Hi Mike,
This should fix your problem:

1. Open the Run dialogue box by pressing the windows key plus R.
2. Type msconfig then press enter.
3. Press Control plus Tab until you get to the Startup page.
4. From there you can cursor down to each item and uncheck it with the spacebar.

Be careful here.  If you don't know what it is, it's best to leave it running.  
I should also point out that this is what I do in XP.  Things may have changed 
in Vista and 7.

a way jaws users can find what programs are loading at start-up and disable
