Hi Gary, You've got me there! Those were the instructions I picked up some time ago and they worked. Ciao, Ron. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gary ODonoghue Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 5:42 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Natural voices Ron that's extremely helpful thank you. Can I just ask what is the difference between the SynthName and the SynthDriver? In your example, you've got the AT&T Synth using the MSSapi driver -- I thought AT&T was an engine in itself? Sorry if my thinking is a bit confused on this, just want to get the various elelemtns straight in my mind. The additions you need to make are in the "Synthesizers" section of this file and should be similar to what follows although the upper case "X" and "Y" in this example are only for demonstrating that you must determine the numeric values to replace "X" and "Y." You don't have to have Eloquence as the number "1" synthesizer either, but for the sake of example I left it as it actually appears in my JFW.INI file: ------------ [Synthesizers] Synth1Name=3Deloq Synth1LongName=3DEloquence for JAWS Synth1Driver=3Deloq SynthXName=3DAT&T SynthXLongName=3DAT&T Natural Voices SynthXDriver=3Dmssapi SynthYName=3DNoSpeech SynthYLongName=3DNo Speech SynthYDriver=3Dnospeech ------------ Just a note here about the "SynthXName=3DAT&T" line; I suggest you don't attempt to be at all verbose in naming the value here because it seems to me that JAWS will try to match the letters you use with it finds in the registry -- so the more letters you use the more likely it will be that you have it wrong and JAWS won't be able to find it (and there should be no spaces embedded in the "AT&T" entry). This does not apply to the "SynthXLongname=3D" line, I believe this is only for documentation= purposes and I know you can use a value of any choosing so long as when you want to change to this synthesizer (unless you set it up as the number "1" synthesizer) you can recognize the long name you enter as the one that references Natural Voices; heck, try "Icabod Crane" in this value and it will work! And as for the "SynthXDriver=3DMSSAPI" -- I used this driver bedcause I was unable to get the MSSAPI 5 driver to work on my system, but it may be more convenient or perform better if you can get MSSAPI5 to be recognized, I cannot speak to this at all! One final note, you may need to add a line like: AT&T=3Ddectalk in the "Synonyms" section of the settings\enu\SYMBOLS.INI file, perhaps JAWS 5.0 already has included a line like this or has specifically defined a section for Natural Voices, again I cannot speak to this since I have not installed JAWS 5.0 as of yet. Hope this helps.
