RE: Narrator not working

After uninstalling/reinstalling Kurzweil 1000, the scanning/reading
software, JFW5.0 now recognizes Micrsoft Sam, and speaks when I invoke
SAPI5. Narrator speaks when the computer is shutting down, but at no other
time. I have removed the Kurzweil software, also removed Openbook,
rebooted. Something is still fighting with Narrator, though. Windows
key-u gives me a JAWS message that narrator is running, no Narrator speech,
and a JAWS message that Narrator is not running.

Any clues???
