Hi Dave,
First, I am still on 11.07? and have not updated to 11.1447.
I was waiting to see what feedback came from the latest update. (hmm, wonder
why I might do that? - LOL)
Now, research does work correctly, so far as research works correctly, and
I do hear the double click when I use the space + insert.
I am particularly proud of my Fickle Finger Award. I have worked hard for
it. (ROFLROFLROFL)

You're using JAWS 11.0.7? Do you actually mean JAWS 11.0.1447? In any case
you've received the "fickle finger of fate" award for today, my friend. I
have no idea why your Insert+space+s layered key does not work as
advertised. For once it works for me. But then I'm using XP Pro 32-bit and
not Windows 7.
When you press Insert+spacebar, or JAWS+spacebar, or extended
Insert+spacebar, do you definitely not hear that double click sound that
announces the layered mode?
Does ResearchIt launch for you correctly? It also uses the layered mode.

I had intended to reply to this yesterday but wanted to give it another
couple of tries first.
I am happy to report that, by golly, good old JAWS is as inconsistent as
usual.
The first time I tried the insert+space and then S Jaws informed me that
"This keystroke is unavailable".
Now when I try it JAWS says absolutely nothing and absolutely nothing
happens. (ROFLROFLROFL)
I have JAWS 11.07?, Winders7 64 bit.

Well, as I understood it here before on this list, someone spoke of this way
to turn speech off in JAWS 11.
You press JAWS key plus the spacebar. And then the letter S.
On my machine, when I do this, JAWS says "Speech Off." And then there is no
speech.
Then when I repeat the key commands, JAWS key plus spacebar, followed by the
letter S, JAWS says "Speech On." And howdy do, there is Mr. JAWS,
speaking again.
I also have the little boink, boink, sounds when I press the JAWS key and
the spacebar, which I guess is the indication that the mode is on. I think
they call it the layered mode?
