I've seen this, and I really don't think it has anything to do with
anything, really. I do believe it's just part of the HTML encoding of some
messages, because I don't even have Microsoft Outlook on this computer and
never did. We don't have it on the PC, either, and I still see it sometimes.
It certainly isn't a JAWS thing. I've seen it ever since JAWS 4.01, at
least...the first version I used while doing email. Take care.

My main point here, and forgive me for making it, is that you can have both
Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express - two different but related
programs - on the same machine. Microsoft Outlook is a more full-featured
'version' or program than Microsoft Outlook Express. I have both programs
on the same machine; both can interact with emails (and newsgroups, if
desired); and Microsoft Outlook likes to think it's in charge: and I didn't
originate this thread. I submit that Microsoft Outlook's
presence/interaction contributes to the 'message' word that you have been
seeing at the front of some messages. End of explanation attempt.

I use Microsoft Outlook express. You understand that both it and Outlook
are Microsoft products, don't you? Anyway, I don't get what you're trying
to say. Let's just let it go, please.

  Hi Yardbird,
Do you also have Microsoft Outlook on your computer? If you don't, you
may not get the message word in front of your own messages. Microsoft
Outlook is begging or waiting for the chance to beg to be one's email
client!

This 'message' business has been going on with earlier versions of JAWS
in use as well, maybe even as far back as JAWS5, possibly before. It could
be a freelists html-to-text conversion thing, as well. For now, I don't
think it a JAWS/HTML issue; though possibly the presence [and
non-convergence with OE when it is used] of Outlook and its html has a role
in it. Heck, it's almost the same as Outlook Express putting "Original
Message" before the message you're replying to. Anyway, everybody sure gets
the 'message'!

I use HTML for my messages in OE. I believe and can't be certain
though
that it has something to do with JAWS and the way its now handleing
HTML
code. At the top of HTML pages you will see JAWS read the title that
is
coded into the HTML page. I suspect that message is the title of OE's
HTML
coded messages. But it's really just a guess at this point.

      Rick,

First of all, you said it! Narrator is no fun to use, at least for
me.
It's really horrible to mess with. I don't understand half of what it
says,
and I don't know the basic commands for navigating or doing stuff. So
let's
go, FS, and fix this bug!

Also, Rick, may as well ask: That word "message" is at the top of
*your*
every post. So, then, can you account for its presence? Do you have
something in your email program that heads every one of your outgoing
messages with the word "Message," for some reason?

      Thanks.

      MessageAlex,

I hope FS is able to solve this problem. It's not always convenient
to use
      narrator instead of JAWS.

Well my apologies then, it must be something to do with the way
JAWS is
handleing the keyboard now. Very puzzleing but if narater worked then
it's
      definately a JAWS issue.

Rick, You are indeed quite correct, doing it with narrator
worked a
treat, and I now have the shortcut key I wanted all along
ctrl+shift+j.
I'll send freedom Scientific a message about it.

            Alex,

Try unloading JAWS 8 with Insert + F4 and using narrator with
Windows
key + U and see if you can change the properties successfully. If
you can
then JAWS has something to do with it. IF not then its something
else.

Rick, Have you been following this thread. I'm sick and
tired of
the number of times I've had to explain that I've checked all the
desktop
icons to make sure nothing has the keystroke assigned to it. I've
also used
shortcut detective from the jfwlite website to determine that there is
no
shortcut on my system that has the ctrl+shift+j keystroke assigned to
it.
                Cheers.

I disagree, JAWS has absolutely nothing to do with
properties on
a desktop icon. That is either a MS issue or someone hasn't cleared
the
contro+Alt+j shortcut from another icon on the desktop.

We can't blame every single issue to JAWS.
