I hope this is still in keeping with the Miranda and JAWS topic discussion we're having on this thread. I pressed Insert plus H for JAWS help while sitting on the main window of Miranda, and I read the part where it says I could arrow up and down in the contact list there in the main window to hear my contacts who were online or offline. I could then press control plus shift plus S to hear the current status of that contact. That sounded great, so I tried it. I found that it did not work at all for me. I figured it was just happening for me. I recently got a friend of mine set up with Miranda. She is using Windows XP, whereas I am using Windows Millennium. She could up and down arrow through the contact list and hear her people who were online and offline. Now, the only difference I can conclude for that, is the operating system. She is using the AIM plug-in, and the Yahoo plug-in only, whereas I am using just the MSN, and the IRC plug-ins. I don't know if the plug-ins make the difference, but the OS sure does. I know I need to upgrade to a newer, more efficient OS, that goes without saying. I can't really do that at this time, because my wife is taking online classes, and she doesn't have a break in her classwork yet for me to take the opportunity to upgrade. I am wonder Jim, if you would be willing, or are able to, make some modifications to make the scripts work for slightly lower versions of Windows, if that indeed is the problem,; or if you could possibly write me lofflist to instruct me in what I need to add to the files to make it work better. I know I'm behind in the version of Windows, and I see it's becoming increasing harder to use scripts because they're being designed for the newer OS's only, but I hope there is a solution until I can upgrade. Thanks for letting me ramble a bit more on this topic that is getting older by the day. I wasn't aware the IRC plug-in couldn't do any of that yet. I just spent some time configuring, and setting up basic aliases. In addition = to the things you mentioned the IRC plug-in not being able to do yet, I do = not think the IRC plug-in support scripts of any kind. I can use an IRC bot = to that end, but with MIRC (which I do have yes, and use MIRC Speech with = it), I had scripts in my own copy of the MIRC client. I was merely attmepting to simplify the number of messenging and chat clients I had open. I can't wait for JAWS to speak incoming and = outgoing channel messages with the IRC plug-in. One other thing I noticed, but failed to mention about Miranda's IRC plug-in, is that it will not play = the channel message sound one has assigned to the channel message sound = event, unless you are not currently sitting on that particular channel's = window. Did that make any sense? In otherwords, if I were sitting on a channel = with activity, I wouldn't get any indication there was any activity going on, unless I got off of the window and sat somewhere else, like on my = desktop, or in the start Menu. all other sounds play just fine, no matter if I'm sitting on the active channel or not. That is very strange. I suppose = it's a bug, and I look forward to the next release of the IRC plug-in, as = well as any updates to the JAWS scripts. For what it's worth at this point, the JAWS scripts for Miranda are fantastic. I was looking for a replacement for MSN Messenger initially, = and this provides that very nicely. I was simply attempting to combine more messenging programs into one, lowering the demands for my system = resources. Thanks for you input Jim. It's much appreciated. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of jim grimsby Sent: Sunday, February 27, 2005 9:31 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Miranda query Hi, there are quite a lot of things that the irc plug in for miranda =3D = will not do yet. Org Subject: Miranda query I didn't think it would take me long to come up with another question = =3D =3D3D for the group. I have taken many people's advice, and installed Miranda. I find it to = =3D =3D3D be pretty good, albeit a few things. I think there needs to be an = IRC =3D3D Private Message sound event, so I will know when someone sends a = PM =3D while I'm on IRC. well, actually, there is a sound of sorts. The = default =3D sound, =3D3D which is a ding for me, will indicate a PM, but I'd like to = set =3D another, more realistic sound. Anyone know how to accomplish this, = since there =3D isn't =3D3D an IRC Private Message sound event under the = sounds category? Now, =3D here's another question. I'm one of those sticklers = about JAWS reading =3D3D =3D incoming messages. JAWS currently doesn't read = incoming and outgoing messages =3D =3D3D for IRC, or MSN messages, which are the = two I'm currently using in Miranda. =3D =3D3D How can I go about fixing this, = or must I always route jaws to PC. If =3D I'm on IRC, and am in a very active = channel, or am playing a game with other =3D =3D3D users, I will most certainly = want to hear all that is going on. How =3D bout if =3D3D I'm in multiple = channels. Sure I hear the sound I have set for when =3D a message =3D3D comes in, but = then one must go find which channel that sound =3D came from. =3D3D Tedious = really. Is there any solution?
