Hey, cy!

I learned on one of those old Underwood typewriters at the grand age of
twelve in Overbrook School for the blind in Philadelphia, PA. They had a
bar at the top for tabbing, right?

I had forgotten that small fact as well. That was way back in the days
when you could use the "O" for a zero and no one cared. I purchased an
old house back in the early 60s and there were several old Underwood
open case typewriters left in it. My, what a piece of engineering. There
are standard shift cars on the road today which have a shorter throw in
the gearshift than one of those old Underwoods had in the keystroke.
Truthfully, I'll bet that you had to push that key the better part of an
inch to cause it to type.

While we are going down memory lane I had a typewriter without a 1. We
had to use the l as a substitute. I think for an exclamation mark we
used the . and struck over and typed the apostrophe.
