I'm coming to this discussion a little late, but the alt plus numpad delete
command can report cursor location in inches, centimeters, millimeters, spaces,
pixels, and I think, something else.
With Jaws key plus V, under the first verbosity option (I think it is
Formatting), arrow down until you hear the choice. Space bar will cycle
through the above options. Pretty slick.

Adrian,

I beg to differ. The position reported with Alt+delete is in pixels, not
inches. Interestingly enough, when writing this message and trying the
keystroke occasionally, it always reported 0 and 1, etc. Don't know why it's
not reporting changes in the position, but it works as advertised in other
places.

I'd forgotten about JAWS key-delete, which reports the line and column of the
caret. This answers Hamid's question, but for the record, the position of the
active cursor can be determined by pressing alt-delete. On my system, this key
combination states the position from left and top edges in terms of inches.

Hi folks, I especially need to know the column number the cursor is currently
placed at (not in a table but in a text). Any key stroke? or anything else?
Thanks, Hamid
