Another thing to try is the "do not map through this device" option.

There should be an option in device manager for the device. On my headset
it's called do not map through this device, and checking that makes it never
become default unless you tell it to. It's a little buried in there under
USB audio device, properties, and USB audio device again for some reason.

ps.  Don't forget to try modifying the jaws.ini file method.  here is info
on doing that.

Ignore the part about replacing the drivers.  That is for version 4 of Jaws.
