Hi, thank you for explaining. These are specific issues that will require gooddiagnostic skills. I do not have such skills. There are some people on this list who are more expert, though, and they may have helpful suggestions. But I have also shared my computer with sighted users, and this never causes anyproblem with Jaws. Let me ask you one thing. Have you taught the sightedusers how to turn off Jaws (Insert F4) before they use the computer? I don't think they can damage Jaws in any way, but at least it won't keep talking or interfere in any way with their programs. This is a good practice to follow when sighted people also use your computer with Jaws. Have them turn it off.You can then turn on Jaws again using a hotkey command. If you don't know how to create this type of command, many folks here can explain that. Thanks again for explaining. Good luck.----- Original Message ----- From: "Sunday Ugerdodge" <dayugdog@xxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, October 16, 2008 7:35 AM Subject: Re: MAINTENANCE JAWS FOR ITS BETTER PERFORMANCE Hi, I ask this question because there are the times that when I use JAWS after some sighted users in here in our PC, I experience some unexpected errors. Let me list some: Lost its sound unexpectedly, JAWS can't read the screen when I use Insert Minus, Insert plus, Insert up arrow and more problems that JAWS always say "blank", or speechless. That's why I asked this general question. I want to here more to JAWS users of how to perform different JAWS maintenance task.----- Original Message ----- From: "Yardbird" <yardbird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 10:04 AM Subject: Re: MAINTENANCE JAWS FOR ITS BETTER PERFORMANCEDid the subscriber who asked this question say he or she was having problems with Jaws? I don't think so. As I recall, it was just a general question whether there were any steps a Jaws user ought to take in order to maintaingood Jaws performance. I'm not expert enough to know whether the answer issimply "not really, except for normal good computer housekeeping," or to remind the person about the convention for making system settings in Windowsconsidered optimal for Jaws, as on the Display page of the system settingsmenus. But I'm pretty sure that there was no complaint of having trouble with Jaws and seeking hints for restoring its lost efficiency or anything like that, which is what it sounds as if people are responding to. If I'm wrong, sorry. But if I heard right, then we could wind up with a long thread of well-meaning suggestions in response to problems that weren't even posed.----- Original Message ----- From: "E.J. Pretty easy to create a new user account: Control Panel -> Users. It's possible that the system as a whole could use some general software maintenance: unneccessary programs running, spyware, etc. HTH, Everett----- Original Message ----- From: "Gene" <gwilson@xxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 1:38 PM Subject: RE: MAINTENANCE JAWS FOR ITS BETTER PERFORMANCEDo the other users have their own accounts on the machine? Maybe, if each user has their own account, wherein, I believe, they can have their own settings, it will eliminate some of your problems with JAWS. I don't know whether or not this is fact, it's just a thought I had. Also, someone would have to be set up as the administrator. How difficult this is, I don't know. Hopefully, others on this list will have additional ideas. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Sunday Ugerdodge Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2008 8:14 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: MAINTENANCE JAWS FOR ITS BETTER PERFORMANCE hello everybody, Does JAWS needs for periodic maintenance for its better performance? How? I am using JAWS 9.0.2169 in Windows XP Pro SP 2 for my everyday tasks. This PC serves every sighted individual in our house. They always use this only one PC. What comes in my mind is that the performance of JAWS maybe affected due to the different sighted users. -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list: http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
