Thanks! I do have a Dell. I use my external DecTalk most of the time. Funny thing though; I also use Kurzweil 1000 which I believe uses Eloquence and don't have the problem there. Tom

Hi,I have the same version of JAWS and the same soundcard. I also have the same basic issue you're having. My sound will crackle and the sound will be gone. I've seen others on the Web (mostly Dell users) with similar audio problemswith that soundcard. I've got no real answer for you. Updating the driver didn't help and Iplayed with as many settings as I could find. I worked around the problem byrunning JAWS through a USB headset, while running all other sound through non-USB speakers or headphones. It actually works out well for me. If Idon't want to use the speakers for music, etc., I put my USB headphones overa pair of non-USB ear buds. My wife calls it one of my hillbilly fixes. SmileI believe that, in my case, JAWS works best with a dedicated soundcard, andI will probably replace the USB solution at some point. Hopefully, someone else on this list has a better answer. Good luck! I am using Jaws version 10.0.1151 , and a SoundBlasterX-FI sound card. When using the down arrow key in a list, such as the Inboxin Windows Mail, if I attempt to go below the last entry in the listthereis a crackle and I loose all sound from the sound card and have to shut down and reboot to get it back. This does not happen if I am using my external DecTalk Express. Anyone have any thoughts on why this occurs?Tom-- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing list:http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.comJFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message tojfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx withthe word unsubscribe in the subject line.
