You may be. Some applications can support proxy servers, whereby the application connects to the server using the user's proxy settings. I can't see why Research It couldn't do the same.

I think the reason most people can't access research it is because their companies firewalls won't let them. Unless the companies are prepared to allow the connection to the relevant servers surely there isn't a lot FS can do about it. No knowledge in this subject though so I could be wrong!
