Hi Gary, I'm not sure I understand why you've said this in response to my previous post. Do you mean that, once I upgrade Jaws to Version 8, it will *not* work with IE6 any longer, and I'll have to install IE7, because this new browser version will be related to Vista so that's all that Jaws 8 will support in the way of Internet Explorer? I thought I read here just recently that Jaws 8 and IE 6 work just fine together. Please bear in mind that, because I haven't bothered upgrading to Jaws 7.1, I've not even had to interest myself in this Legacy support business , so far, so I may be needlessly confused by what you're saying. Thanks very much. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary Jackson" <gary@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2006 2:17 PM Subject: Re: Legacy Support for Internet Explorer: what does it do? One last thing, I asked FS about the legacy support and they said that it is a thing of the past starting with jaws 8 in order to prepare for windows vista. Jim, thanks for responding. I don't personally have a problem with this because I'm using Jaws 7 to start with, and I'm not familiar with any Web navigation functions in later versions that I might miss if they were disabled as collateral damage by upgrading. I do hope that Jaws 8, which I plan to eventually install, will work just as it's supposed to without my having to think about this at all. Thanks again. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Grimsby JR." <jimgrims@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, November 18, 2006 6:16 PM Subject: RE: Legacy Support for Internet Explorer: what does it do? Select this check box if you want to use the method that JAWS 7.0 and earlier used to render and understand Web pages. Selecting this check box may be useful if you are having problems reading or navigating a particular Web site. However, some JAWS Web features may be unavailable or non-functional while legacy support is enabled. I understand from recent posts that a feature with this name must've been introduced in Jaws 7.1 (it doesn't appear among the Configuration manager's HTML/Misc. options on my Jaws 7) and has disappeared in Version 8. What did it do? More aspecifically, what sort of problem did it solve? Personally, I don't have any Web navigation issues to complain of at the moment, so maybe that's part of why I'm perplexed. Can anyone explain what the story is with this legacy support deal?
