Well, that's reassuring, but since I plan to go directly from 7 to 8 when I upgrade, I won't be finding out for myself. At least you gave it the hands-on test, though. I just sent yet another message about page format. I'm really unsure what's happening. especially with a friend's page, whose design I could draw for you if I could see what I was drawing (no central vision for doing something like that), the version I see onscreen, whether Jaws is loaded or not, is the same thing with everything but the text page content sequestered within a narrow window to one side. Whereas he descried the page as having nav links along the very top, right beneath the toolbar,, his photo in the middle of the page (it's inside the narrow window on the right, in my view),and a bunch of other differences. Big differences. This is strange. cdi tacide I give up for now. Well I am using 7.1 and I am having no problems what so ever with the feature unchecked so this is no big deal. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Yardbird Sent: Saturday, November 18, 2006 7:02 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Legacy Support for Internet Explorer: what does it do? Jim, thanks for responding. I don't personally have a problem with this because I'm using Jaws 7 to start with, and I'm not familiar with any Web navigation functions in later versions that I might miss if they were disabled as collateral damage by upgrading. I do hope that Jaws 8, which I plan to eventually install, will work just as it's supposed to without my having to think about this at all. Thanks again. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Grimsby JR." <jimgrims@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, November 18, 2006 6:16 PM Subject: RE: Legacy Support for Internet Explorer: what does it do? Select this check box if you want to use the method that JAWS 7.0 and earlier used to render and understand Web pages. Selecting this check box may be useful if you are having problems reading or navigating a particular Web site. However, some JAWS Web features may be unavailable or non-functional while legacy support is enabled. I understand from recent posts that a feature with this name must've been introduced in Jaws 7.1 (it doesn't appear among the Configuration manager's HTML/Misc. options on my Jaws 7) and has disappeared in Version 8. What did it do? More aspecifically, what sort of problem did it solve? Personally, I don't have any Web navigation issues to complain of at the moment, so maybe that's part of why I'm perplexed. Can anyone explain what the story is with this legacy support deal?
