Well if all is behaving as it should, you assign the particular card to the particular application. You might assign your music programme to use the USB sound card and leave Jaws on your built in card just to be sure that jaws will talk when the sound card isn't present.

The other thing though is you will need a speaker or headphone for the USB device, there may be some which come with speakers but I am not aware of any.

The best answer is probably an external synth except they are pretty expensive.

How do you keep the USB sound card from completely taking over when it is plugged in?

I assume the USB sound card is external and connects via a USB port. Is
there a problem with this sort of setup if I hook it up sometimes and don't
have it hooked up at other times?

Hi,

I am thinking about getting a laptop. Is it feasible to get two sound cards
on a laptop? I would like to be able to independently control the volume
for Jaws and whatever I'm listening to.

Also, is there anything I should avoid when selecting a laptop?
