Hello,
When I get my new laptop (hopefully) I thinkI will set up the Tripletalk USB
synthisizer on it.
I like to listen to music and I don't think I can install a separate
internal sound card in the laptop so I might as well use the Tripletalk.
This allows me to have JAWS voice at a separate volume or even off while
listening to music.
The Tripletalk is pretty slick and I happen to like the speech from it.

I haven't used a hardware synthesizer since my DecTalk Express. With the
power of the new computers, and even netbooks, which I am using at the
present time, I see no need for a hardware solution.
Of course, I am not using the newer more human sounding voices either. I
think eloquence is still my favorite because it responds much better than
any human sounding voice.

I would prefer a hardware synth that would plug into an internal slot in a
laptop, in order to maintain maximum portability. I have not yet found an
internal speech synthesizer for laptops. If such hardware is not available,
then I will use my Doubletalk LT, which plugs into an RS-232 serial
connection, and has its own battery.
The manufacturer of the Doubletalk LT (RC Systems www.rcsys.com) also makes
the Tripletalk speech synthesizer, which might be a good choice for you,
since it connects to a laptop via a USB connection, and would not need its
own battery.
