Dean, I navigated to the folder you said to go to. C:/Windows/system32. jaws announced that it was closed, so I opened it and arrowed down just to hear the names of its subfolders. But then I closed it again and tabbed into the files list view, looking for taskkill.exe. All I found that began with "task" were a file names taskman and taskmgr, both exec. files. But no taskkill. Any suggestions? Also, as I've asked already, how do you know when you really ought to kill Jaws, whether by doing it this way or using the batch file or the key combo? I've had a system hang from time to time where Jaws went silent and I couldn't get it to recover, but I never thought to try to remedy the situation by exiting Jaws, one way or the other. I mistakenly assumed it had unloaded itself and that's why it had fallen silent. As I said earlier, I guess that wasn't reasonable to assume. But then how do you know when you're in a spot where you're hung up, and Jaws has stopped speaking, and you ought to kill it properly? And then what dodo you do? Alt F4 to exit any other running apps, if you don't mind doing that despite not knowing if you're actually doing anything? And then you restart/warm boot? I don't get what the whole sequence is. Thanks. Again, I find no such file in that folder. thanks. ane nvbut ci ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dean Martineau" <dean@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, June 23, 2008 4:01 PM Subject: RE: KillJaws, another approach For those who don't know about batch files and don't want to learn, you can achieve gaining easy access to KillJaws through Windows techniques. 1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32/taskkill.exe, use tie application key, choose Send To, and choose Desktop Create Shortcut. Now on the desktop, you'll have a shortcut to Taskkill.exe. Hibghlight it and press alt-enter. This brings up the properties of the shortcut. The first control of the dialog box is an edit field to the path, and allows for adding parameters. Press End to go to the end of the line, after the .exe, his space and then paste or write /f /im jfw.exe Once you're done there you can tab twice and create your hotkey, then press enter to save. Just another way. I haven't been following the thread, so I don't know if this has already been answered: Is this process any better than using the built-in key in JFW 8 or 9, Jawskey+win+f4? I believe earlier versions of jaws when unloaded did not remove themselves from memory. Robert To find me you can do the following.
