Hello Robert,

First of all, thanks for the batch line, which I'll save in a text file as
you suggest, although whether or not I establish a way to run the command
will depend on my getting a little more clarification.

I sometimes exit Jaws and relaunch it when it's misbehaving in ways that I
suspect (often correctly) may be fixed if I just do this. But all I do is
Use the Insert F4 command, which provides the unloading Jaws/are you sure
you want to quit Jaws dialogue. And then I launch Jaws again using a hotkey,
my preferred way which works fine with no key conflicts (someone should tell
the person who expressed concern about this that there's some sort of
command that will display all your hotkeys so you know what they are), and
everything functions just fine again. I mean, if you don't mind the myriad
of eccentric behaviors Jaws 9x displays on my system. But that's another
issue entirely.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I've never encountered a situation
where I had reason to suspect something was malfunctioning because Jaws
wouldn't release its hold on some blocks of RAM. I wouldn't know the
difference, to be honest, as I'm not sophisticated enough. But I'm not aware
of having any mysterious problems that make me wish I knew how to tweak
something about Jaws and RAM.

Given the above, can you see whether I might have any use for this batch
file?

Thanks.

It is a line of code in a batch file you can create to clear jaws from
memory if there is a problem.

echo off

taskkill /F /IM jfw.exe

Put that into notepad and save the file for example KillJaws.bat on to your
desktop.

I believe earlier versions of jaws when unloaded did not remove themselves
from memory.

I just had a JAWS crash, and Kill Jaws worked like a charm. Very handy when

sighted assistance is not available.
