I connect my alva satellite before installaton and it works just fine. the
only problem I have with my display is if jaws is running ang and the
braille display is active during restart, the pc hangs. If I turn off the
display or unload jaws, there is no hang during shut down.

Do not connect your Alva display while you are defining the Alva as your
braille display. After definition is complete, then connect your Alva to the
PC. You probably will want to review the settings for braille within the
default configuration manager. Review your settings for braille within the
basic settings for JAWS.
