Francis, That's fascinating. I was so accustomed to Notepad seeming like a Windows version of a DOS plain text editor, I didn't even look for formatting options in its menus. Let alone WordPad. Well, then, what's the purpose of something like Notepad if what it produces isn't actually plain (ASCII) text? I thought that was desirable for some simplified, compact writing tasks.
