but if jaws is not running as a service if you dont have it starting up at
start up it should not be listed in the services tab in msconfig right? when
i checked that it was still listed, so what is up with that one?

It means that if you have jaws start automatically when your computer starts. If this is true after the computer starts, turn off jaws and then start it while the computer is running and then install the new bata.

Always read the material that is sent out along with the update. In this
case, Eric stated it was very important to be sure JAWS was not running as a
service when you run automatic update. This will not be the case in future
updates.
