I recently had a hard disk crash, and before that I had the problem, now
with exactly the same setup I no longer do, so who knows how that happened.

Hey I can duplicate this. Using JAWS 8.0.423 demo. To resolve this, turn
off "tether JAWS to PC" with control jaws key numpad minus. For laptop
users, the only keystroke I found is control caps lock fn p. Hope that
helps.
