Put your focus on a message without opening it. The insert-tab combination reads the subject line and then the message number out of the total number of messages in that folder.

Well, if I open out look into my in box, isn't the focus on the list
view? If not how can I make sure it is?

Right about the key combo. You need to be in the list view with focus on

the appropriate message to determine the number of messages.

The jaws key is I think the insert on the number pad and then tab key. I tried pressing them both down at the same time and am getting nothing. Any ideas? Also wondering if you might have any ideas as to why I get duplicate messages in my jaws mail box which is a folder in my inbox?

Hi I am writing regarding a problem I am having with jaws not saying the item number in a list. I have only noticed this in Microsoft Out look forinstance a list of 10 messages and you might be on number 5, but it does not tell me what number I am on or what the total number of items in the list are. Wondering if any of you might have an idea as to why this is happening and how to correct it.
