I'm not running media center to the best of my knowledge. Anyways, my problem is that it crashes in the middle of the most mundane functions like writing in word or sending a message in outlook express. This is most troublesome and I just wish I had some answers. Thanks, Judith

Judith,
I think you may have misunderstood your tech person, and gotten it a little
backward. For instance, if you are running the computer under Windows XP
Home, either version of Jaws will work with it. For instance, I happen to
have Jaws Pro , even though my operating system is only XP Home Edition.

But, as I hope is clear, I could also be using just Jaws regular with this
computer which is running under XP Home. It's okay one way or the other.

However, and this is what confuses me about your story, it's my
understanding that if you use XP Pro, Windows Media Center, or a couple of
other versions of Windows, you absolutely need Jaws Pro for Jaws to work.
And you seem to have been saying that you are using only the regular edition
of Jaws.

So maybe you could find out if you really have Jaws regular or Jaws Pro. It
might clarify something.

In the midst of all this, of course I hope your troubles will be solved.
But your story about using Jaws regular with Win XP Pro sounds odd.

Richard, According to the teck I bought this from jaws needs xp pro to
function properly. Jaws itself is working fine on my computer, its just all
the other idiosyncracies that are wacky. Judith

Someone that was having difficulty with their new computer mentioned that
they were running Windows XP Pro and Jaws Standard. Someone else has
already mentioned that this may be the cause of the problem. I can't
confirm that but I would't be surprised if that was the case.

In the past week I purchased a new laptop that is running Windows Media
Center Edition (Windows Home was not an option).

Freedom Scientific, on their website, lists Jaws Standard as being
compatible only with XP Home Edition. If this is not true then I believe
that their sales department would have advised me that I had the option of
not upgrading, rather than upgrading to Jaws Pro at a cost of $368 ($200
upgrade plus $200 for the SMA minus $60 refund for 1 unused version
upgrade plus sales tax.

As I understand it, XP Media Center is based on Pro with certain functions
disabled and with other functions added.

Can anyone elaborate on this?

Richard
