Thanks Chip and Dave this is exactly what I was looking for. I thought I had seen something like that mentioned here or somewhere. I have been to their site and several vendors but not seen anything I recognized like this, I will go back more aggressively. Again thanks. Dale, I have an IBM notebook with one of their "pop-out" numeric keypads, and would say it works very well. It fits into any ultra-bay (removable device bay). The "A" series has 2 ultrabays, one on each side just under the keyboard, and that's what I have (and have my numeric keypad in the right-hand side bay). I've got a cd burner in the other. The "T" series only has 1 ultrabay, and I don't know which side of the keyboard it's on. If it's on the right, and you don't think you'd want another device in at the same time, then you could look at the "T" series as well. Unfortunately, the cradle you need and the keypad run about $150 together. On the up side, if you switch constantly between a full-sized keyboard and the laptop as I do, it makes switching a breeze as you don't have to learn and remember a new layout each time you sit down. There's no doubt in my mind that the IBM thinkpads are exceptionally well made; however, they tend to be among the more pricey ones. They do have a very generous return policy (30 days, all your money back except for shipping) and they frequently run a special where they will offer free shipping. The numeric keypad is self-supporting, so it becomes a part of the keyboard. Others have suggested using a usb numeric keypad, and while this would work, it's a separate item and if you're using this on your lap, could be difficult to balance along with the laptop.
