Thanks Dave, Thing is that I am just too stupid to change from one sort to another of access. I have trouble moving back and forth between Jaws and Vert for DOS when I have to and from typing to brailler. I use this access technology to perform other functions only some of which involve computing and it continuously frustrates me how much time, energy and learning and practice is required to acquire, maintain and preserve the skills to be competent in those ancillary functions of daily living. Hopefully not straying too far off topic but imagine if they built automobiles with the transmissions relocating gears or airplanes with different functions on the stick or calculator layout buttons on cellular mobile telephones. Someone would holler very loudly! I think for my purposes, as close to one single interface as I can achieve is likely to offer me the most seamless and efficient access. As for the thin client, I don't wish to enter into a discussion on that either. I do have other solutions for now, just want to time my purchase of upgrades efficiently if possible. Sounds like this is not quite the time. Now that we have VOIP telephone service over our network though I expect we will be seeing more of these applications due to the additional load on the network. Again thanks and regrets to Bruce if I have strayed too close to the boundaries of list admissibility. Hi Dale and all, This has got me quite excited. They have a solution that you might like. If you buy an ultra bay laptop, they sell an ultra bay usb keypad that fits into the storage bay and can be pulled out and connected when needed. They used to carry notebooks with full sized keyboards but they do not carry them any more. You can also have them call you if you live in their calling range. They know about jaws, but you might have to contact their special needs department to deal with that issue. Of course, I got the customer service from india. You really don't need a numeric keypad with jaws anymore though especially on one that is sensibly designed. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dale Leavens" <dleavens@xxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, February 03, 2004 11:31 PM Subject: Jaws and IBM Notebooks? I know this goes around and around, sorry about that but I am needing a Notebook and I seem to recall that one or more of the IBM series were said to have a number pad separate which folds out from the keyboard and further, that they work well with JAWS. I don't happen to live within hundreds of kilometres of a store which carries any inventory and my searches on the Web do not make any reference to such a feature. Have I misunderstood -- is there such a notebook with a number pad or one with something like a full keyboard? For the moment we can assume that cost is not the concern. Thanks.
