Linda,

Windows doesn't force you to download and install any updates. A notice may
be advising you to do so, but that is all it's doing. There are some
updates that are called critical updates because they have to do with
ongoing security patches for things like the gaps that virus and malwear
hackers exploit in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, and these really
should be taken advantage of. But the others can be dealt with on a basis
of choice.

I think others on the list may be more skilled at performing these
procedures than I am, so I won't say more. But the above may be a helpful
clarification.

Hi,

There is a new windows update which makes you upgrade some things as a
download but I never had a problem either with the new or old version.

Carliss,

I have experienced this problem intermittently. My laptop runs
Windows XP pro all updates applied.

What operating system is your computer running?

Hello listers,
Is any body having a problem with jaws6.0, locking up at the
microsoft updates website? If so, have you found a fix?
If you haven't had this problem do you have an idea why it's
happening? Know matter what I try, jaws is locking up at microsoft
updates website. The computer is down loading the updates but jaws
will not speak. I've never seen this problem on any of my computers,
and I have had quite a few of them.
So what I am saying is, when I press the down load and instal button,
jaws doesn't say another word until I do an alt f4. I've never seen
this befor.
Thanks to all, I'll be listening.
Carliss
