Try doing it without running JAWS first if you're not already. There's a dll file necessary to run the update. When I first installed JAWS on my xp machine and had it running first I had this problem; in fact I had to have someone mouse it for me without JAWS so I could get the proper dll file to run. I can't remember the whole name of the dll, but it's something like mserv dll. Apparently it keeps you from getting to the Microsoft server for the updates if it doesn't run properly.

Good luck.

Yes, I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. I was able to launch narrator and answer some critical questions to get the update started, but it certainly was strange; whatever technology MS is now using, it's certainly sending jfw 6.2 (anyway) into oblivion.

Carliss,

I have experienced this problem intermittently. My laptop runs
Windows XP pro all updates applied.

What operating system is your computer running?

Hello listers,
Is any body having a problem with jaws6.0, locking up at the
microsoft updates website? If so, have you found a fix?
If you haven't had this problem do you have an idea why it's
happening? Know matter what I try, jaws is locking up at microsoft
updates website. The computer is down loading the updates but jaws
will not speak. I've never seen this problem on any of my computers,
and I have had quite a few of them.
So what I am saying is, when I press the down load and instal button,
jaws doesn't say another word until I do an alt f4. I've never seen
this befor.
Thanks to all, I'll be listening.
