I like your analogy. Either method will turn off the radio, but one is less 
expensive.

What I would honeslty do in a situation like that would be to remove
anything from Adobe, then install fresh to my specifications. It's not
as much instant gratification as MSConfig, but it could save an awful
lot of grief further down the road. Using MSConfig is kind of like
trying to disable the radio in the car by yanking out a handful of
wires, rather than by turning the radio off.
