John, you are one brave puppy!  As you proceed with the exploration, could 
you try to figure out how you can get a second list of potential words, or 
even a third list,  by clicking on one of the entries in the first list, so 
that you can run it down until you find something that feels right?

I promise I'll try to play with the same methods you're discovering, to see 
if I can figure anything out.  I never would have guessed that the context 
menu might be a way to circumvent the crazy design of this task pane thing.
