the mobile based interface to Yahoo! mail that can be reached at
wap.oa.yahoo.com
is much much easier to navigate and JFW will read all of the form fields
correctly.

You're correct-due to a querk with Yahoo! Mail, JAWS is not able to
correctly use this form field. If you have an Email client like Outlook you
can set up free POP3 access to Yahoo! Mail.
The Hotmail webmail works very well with JAWS although I'd say an Email
client's your best bet.
