Hi there Dean,
yes I have the virtual machine in my computer, it's not going to bother you 
by loading it, this is like you say useful for some web pages and web 
interactive things, also can sort out some applications to work properly? I 
have a tuning program for a digital radio on here and this won't work with 
out it? some programs are still relying on the virtual machine for making 
direct X, work. now where to get a copy well I think if you go to the 
windows update site, click on audio development things then I think i found 
a copy of it in there. if you just visit the page that offered to give you 
it in the first place and then just let it install it for you then that 
would work? ok hope this helps
