Try net start jfwservice. You must type this exactly in the run dialogue box.

I shutdown the running version started the other version from the run dialogue and when I checked the JFWService it was not running.

Why can't you just quite the currently running one, go start, run, and either jaws9 or jaws10 depending on version? I *believe* if it's set to do wo, it will still start the JFW service. I'm not sure however; I've never actually checked.

I prefer running jaws as a service but I often need to change the version of jaws because different versions work better with some software than others. I thought I could just edit the path to the executible in the service And do a restart but the service is set to read only. Does anyone know how I can take the read only off the service? This way I could change the path and restart the service running the version I want.

Yep, I'm afraid so. I am back to Firefox now; after having solved the www.dominos.com dilemma.

Hi Gerald,

I just tried that experiment and you are absolutely right. Thanks for pointing that out.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, here's a little experiment you
can try. First visit the web site below using Firefox. Then visit it
using IE 8. You will probably hear the embedded Real Player menu
prompts just fine with Firefox, but only silence with IE 8.

I just accessed
www.radioshack.com
without any trouble using IE 8. As for the talking computers
magazine, I can't comment on that one.

Just thought I'd let you know.

In my case, I had problems loading certain web pages with IE 8. For
instance, whenever I tried to load the Radio Shack home page, an
error dialog would pop up with a message that IE had encountered a
problem and needed to close. This happened in normal mode as well as
compatibility mode. Activating the Okay button in this dialog caused
IE to close and reopen on my default home page. I never had this
problem with IE 7 or Firefox. Also, embedded Real Player audio would not play in IE 8.
Again,
no problem with IE 7. I reported the Real Player issue to MS last
September when I was beta testing IE 8, but they basically shrugged
it off and never bothered to address it. The editor of Talking
Computers magazine, an audio podcast magazine for blind computer
users is quite upset over the Real Player issue, because their web
site relies on embedded Real Player audio to access the various menu
options. So I'll wait awhile before trying IE 8 again.

It would really be helpful if those of you who have switched back to
7 would explain why you did this. Just saying IE 8 has some issues
which made it not quite ready for prime-time, isn't really helpful.
