JFW v6 speaking characters twice while typing and reading

Hi all,
I have just got an Acer Travelmate 2300 laptop. It has a Conexant
AC-Link audio sound card. JFW v6 speaks some characters twice for
example,
the letter a is spoken as" a a ". The same applies to the letters y,
i, l and o and e. This happens in typing as well as reading. This is
a clean install of Windows XP and jfw.
The laptop is running Windows XP pro all updates applied. This double
speaking is application independent.
Any one know how to solve this?
