Dan I don't remember which version of Jaws you are running here. However, I noticed in the past that Jaws will speak your selected text. I'm sure that this problem goes back to version of 7.0 of Jaws.

Subject: RE: JFW not reading combo boxes or desktop

Here's an update on this problem, and it continues to baffle me. Any help is very much appreciated.

Jqaws now reads the desktop icons. The resolution of the screen is set down to 1080 by 768 or that approximate one. All control panel settings and folder options are set for classic views, no theme. Msaa mode for reading list boxes is enabled in JCF advanced options.

Here are the symptoms now:
1. combo boxes read position, no text, verbosity setting is irrelevant
2. Tree views read position, such as 7 of 9, but no contents
3. Tabs on multipage dialog boxes do not read
4. file extensions and sizes do not read, even though those things are checked in the details part of view.

A say line produces nothing, changing verbosity to all changes nothing. Radio buttons and check boxes read just fine.

Onh, one more very odd thing. If I select several files in a folder to move them and do a control c for copy, it says nothing selected. I do not know if this is Jaws or something odd about Windows.

Is there a good, detailed document anywhere telling me all the things to set in XP for maximal Jaws accessibility?

Thanks,

Dan
