John,

Are you using software speech?

I've had one report, and only one, of someone complaining about the =
sound driver for the sound card that was built-in with a centrino.  It =
seemed that it turned the sound card off (to save power) between each =
spoken word, thus causing a slight crackling between words.

It seems to me an updated sound driver would easily be able to fix this.

just wondering if you found the same issue.
