HI,

It's not "jaws menus" that are pertinent here, if you mean the options and
voices menus in the Jaws interface that comes up when you press Insert J.
what you need is the Configuration Manager.

Press Insert 6 to open it. If you want the changes you're about to make to
be applied to all applications, press Control Shift D and hear Jaws say
you're now in the default.jcf file. To confirm this, press Insert T to hear
the file name.

Now press alt S to open the settings menu.

Arrow down to text processing option. Press enter.

Now tab through the items until you hear "list item, combo box." Open the
combo box by pressing alt down arrow, and arrow up and down through the
options to say selected, say unselected, say both or say none. Leave your
choice selected, then tab to OK and press enter to close the menu.

Now press Control S to save this change before pressing Alt F4 to exit
Configuration Manager. This should do it.

Good luck.

Subject: JAWS speaking "selected"

In JFW 7.1, I'd like to stop the speaking of the selected status of items as
I arrow through a list. I've plowed around the JAWS menus, but I just can't
spot a place to stop the speaking of the status.

any hints?
thanks a lot,

Rob Hill
