My neighbor got his computer and JAWS from the VA. He had JAWS 6, until just recently. I don't believe they ever told him about getting an SMA, but I did. He was going to look into getting a newer version of JAWS, on his own, when the VA gave him JAWS 11. I suppose they would have sent someone to help him install it. But, I live right next-door, so I could help him. I believe, with JAWS 6, the authorization number appeared, when installing 11.

The below message is correct. The individual needs to contact the V A and
see if they will assist with obtaining a new license, or what they can do if
anything at this point.

Hi,
I seriously doubt if the VA is dealing in second hand or pirated software.
From my knowledge the software the VA hands out should also come with
someone to help install it. I have noticed that the VA seems to be handing
out the JAWS 11 to many vets who have very old versions of JAWS. It would
appear that the VA did not help vets with their older versions by reminding
them that they (the vets) should keep up their own SMAs.
I have a friend who does tech work for the VA and he delivers and installs
the new versions of the software supplied by the VA.

Is the VA handing out second-hand or pirated software? If they obtained a
copy of JAWS 11 from the company or a dealer, it should come complete with a
license. This begs the question of where they got a copy of JAWS 6 in the
first place, unless the center had an old copy around ,which was licensed to
them.

My neighbor has been blind for eight or ten years. He went to a V.A.
training center and got his computer and JAWS 6. Just recently, the
V.A.
gave him JAWS 11. He asked me to help him install it. It installed,
but
said something about his authorization being to old. I can't remember
the
exact statement. I told him he should call FS tomorrow to see what he

needs
to do.

What happens in a case like this? Will he or the V.A. have to pay an
additional fee to go from JAWS 6 to 11?
