Thanks everyone for the help. After today I'm returning from my travels to my home computer system and won't have to deal with this as I never could fix it. Curmudgeon. Thanks for the suggestion. If I set the insert + s toggle to "all" it has the effect of announcing the link target file--some progress. But JAWS still won't read the link name under any of the settings. One thing I didn't notice at first is that JAWS also doesn't read menu items as you arrow down them in IE. For example, if you press alt + f to open the file menu, as you arrow down it doesn't read the items. So the problem is wider than just links or header lists. Oddly, if I switch to another application, say, Microsoft Word, it works. That is, it reads the menu items as you arrow down. Also oddly, in Internet Explorer, though it doesn't read any "live" menu options when using the menu bar, it will read those that are greyed out as unavailable. Mark, I have to use insert + up arrow to have links or headers or menu items read. Normally these items are read just by arrowing through them. David, the accessibility settings don't seem to have any effect on this problem. Chevelle, the HTML settings also don't seem to help. As mentioned above, the problem goes beyond just links. In any case, my settings are the same as yours. Thanks for pointing that menu out though, I hadn't used it before. Thanks again to you all. This is a great list. I tried a number of pages and sites, and neither the links list nor the header lists are spoken as you arrow through them. I have to use the say line keys to have them spoken. I have used JAWS many times and have never seen this problem except with this current setup. It's baffling. I was hoping there was some obvious detail I had overlooked. Thanks again, Ray ----------- Subject: Re: JAWS does not speak links when arrowing through the links list whenusing IE Hi Ray, JFW by default does speak the links in the links list as you arrow through them using the pc cursor. Could you have some other window covering the links list? Also, does this not speaking of links happen on all pages or only on a particular page? Speaking the links is the normal behavior, correct? I can use Insert + Up Arrow to say the line, and it will speak the link, but I believe it should speak it without my intervention as I arrowed up and down. I am using a friend's computer with W2k and JAWS 5.10 and IE 6. Searching on this topic on the Internet, I found some mention of it with regard to logging in immediately or starting JAWS as a service, I have looked at these options to no avail. I was hoping maybe there was a simple verbosity setting or script adjustment I could use. I have also searched in this list's archive with no luck.
