Garth,

Here's something I found when I was trying to get some help on a mouseover
link, but now I sure can't remember how I brought up this text:

"To use JAWS with these links, press the
TAB key until you move to one of the product links. Then, press
CTRL+INSERT+ENTER to activate the OnMouseOver for that
link. JAWS will announce that the page has changed at a certain
line. Press J, type the line number JAWS spoke, and press
ENTER. JAWS moves you directly to the place on the page
where the new text is displayed. You can then read the new text
with the standard reading commands. "

I also found another way that seems to work on the Freedoms Scientific web
site, at least:

When you arrow to a mouseover link you actually hear "on mouseover". If you
tab to that same link, you don't hear that. SO I would recommend that you
arrow to the link. In either case, once you land on that link, press
Insert+NumPad minus. This will route JAWS to the PC cursor, and at least on
this web page it read the actual text for the mouseover from start to end.

I've never paid attention to the mouseover so this was a learning experience
for me.

Thanks for this Dave. I have started going through this and have been loving
the way Jaws works for browsing in Firefox and IE. FS actually include this
training on the DVD and it was one of the first I looked at. The real issue
for me is that 80% of my work time is spent in an application which is not
that accessible, especially for screen readers. I need to use the
magnification and the mouse is therefore continually reinforced as a primary
means of interacting with the computer.

I have been progressively moving to just using jaws at home to ensure I
learn it as quickly as possible and am truly enjoying the experience. It is
just that I am also really shocked that this simple feature doesn't seem to
be available in what seems to be the most feature rich screen reader on the
market. I am sure that there aren't that many folks that would want this or
it would be there but it is even included in NVDA. I am also sure that I
have bored too many of you senseless with this thread so I apologize. I
really do appreciate all the assistance that I have been offered.

It was one of those things I hoped to clear up as easily as stopping the
tab key from beingreported every time I hit it.

I am sure I will have many more questions as I learn enough to know what I
need to know about Jaws so thanks for the patience and responsiveness..

thanks,
Garth
