Jean,

Your first suggestion was the solution. I touched on the link with my up or
down arrow key movement, heard it speak, but then arrowed left and right
once. Now, so far as I can tell, it isn't as if I wasn't really on the link
to begin with. As I arrowed back and forth, I heard letters I had just
typed as I wrote out the link. But somehow Jaws doesn't let the cursor
effectively focus until you tweak it a little bit, like that. Then you hear
"Word is loading.." and so forth. Why Word needs to take credit for this,
or in what sense it's actually "loading" the web page (after all, it isn't
loading it into a Word document), I don't know. But just so it works.
Thanks. And Happy Thanksgiving.

Yardbird.

About links in Word that you think don't activate. It could be that
you're not really positioned on the link. When arrowing up or down and
Jaws says Hyperlink when you come to a line that is a link, try arrowing
left or right to make sure you are actually on the link itsef. Also,
although I'm not sure if this is necessary in this case, but it might
be, make sure Background Open of Web Pages is checked under Tools,
Options, General tab.

Not sure if that's what your problem is, but it's a good start.

Jean
