I have no idea. But I have some files where it loads with that setting turned off as settings are saved specific to each document. I don't know how it is off in the first place, but obviously I did it somehow at some time. He may have also without knowing it specifically.

hi Jean,

As my links are speaking in Word, I just checked that on-the-fly verbosity
menu to see how it was set. And I find that the Fields item is on by
default. How could it have gotten turned off for someone, without them
knowing?

In Word, go into verbosity settings with insert-V and turn Fields on. That should do it.

Hello Yardbird:

JAWS doesn't announce links in Word documents for me, but it does
online. What settings are there in JAWS to allow it to read links in
Word documents? Do I also have to modify a setting in Word?

Yours truly,

yes. Jaws should simply say "link," the way it does when it
encounters an
active link online or within an email message. It works this way on
my
computer, anyway (XP Home, Word 2000, Jaws 6.2). Aren't links
speaking for
you, this way?

Hello list members:

When reading Word documents line by line with the up and down arrows
or
using Say All, is there a way to have JAWS tell you when links are
encountered?
