hi all, Now that IE 7 is officially released, you will have peoples asking questions about how it works with JAWS and if they should avoid installing it. This is very simple to answer. If they have JAWS 7.1 or will be installing JAWS 8 in early November when we release it, they are OK to go with IE 7. If they will continue with earlier versions of JAWS (5, 6, or 7.0), they should probably avoid updating to the new Browser. JAWS 8, scheduled to release in early November, will have great support for all the new features introduced by IE 7 such as Tabs, the tool bar buttons, automatic announcement of RSS feeds on Web Sites, etc. Most of this works very well in IE 7.1 as well. But what about users that have 7.0 or earlier versions that have not updated to JAWS 7.1 or will not be able to upgrade to JAWS 8 right away, what should they do? Should update to IE 7 or stick with IE 6? With the introduction of JAWS 7.0 in the Fall of 2005, Freedom Scientific released a new internal design of working with HTML, which gave us support for the new Accessible design in FireFox 1.5. With the release of the JAWS 7.1 update, we began to use this same approach for working with IE as well, rather than the older Legacy support had been using for years (Version JAWS 7.0 or earlier). This means that the new support for HTML introduced in JAWS 7.1 is really needed to use IE 7. So users of JAWS 7.1, will find that IE 7 is very accessible. Navigation Quick Keys all work, you can fill out forms as expected, and so on. For users of JAWS 7 or earlier versions, they may want to avoid IE7 (unless they can update to JAWS 7.1 or even better, upgrade to JAWS 8). The real problems in IE 7 with the earlier versions will be found in filling out Forms but there will be unexpected behavior in other places as well.
