Hi Roger,

Thanks so much for that info about the case sensitive check box; it works.

Hi Don,
Version 10 has added a case sensitive check box in the replacement word area. I tested it by checking the check box and it worked correctly. This is just another addition for further flexibility. I did not check out the telephone number problem.

Subject: JAWS Dictionary problem with JAWS 10

Hi List,

I installed the final version of JAWS 10 a few days ago and I quickly discovered a problem with my default JAWS Dictionary. I used the Merge utility in order to have my settings and JAWS Dictionary brought in from JAWS 9.

Most items in my JAWS Dictionary work fine. However, I have postal abbreviations for various states and provinces, in the U.S. and Canada, in my dictionary so that they read the 2 letters instead of pronouncing them as words; it is only the ones containing vowels that I have included in the dictionary.

For example, the postal abbreviation for Indiana is IN, which I entered with capital letters and have it pronounced as I N; similarly, the postal abbreviation for Ontario is ON, which I entered with capital letters and have it pronounced as O N.

With all JAWS versions up to JAWS 9, this worked fine and, if I encountered in or on, in small letters, then they would be pronounced as the words in and on, which is what I want.

However, in JAWS 10, even though I specified capital letters for the individual letters being pronounced, JAWS now also pronounces the words in and on, in lower case, as individual letters, which is very confusing when reading a document or web page.

As a result of this and the fact that phone numbers are not read properly either, I have set the second build of JAWS 9 as the version I want automatically loaded at startup, since it reads all of these things the way I want them read.

Can anyone else verify if this dictionary problem is occuring in JAWS 10?

   Thanks,

   Don
